Healthy Real County

The H. E. Butt Family Foundation is the largest private employer in Leakey, Texas—a small town in Real County, Texas—just down Highway 83 from the Canyon and even closer to our hearts.

Property Planning & Stewardship

In 2014, David and Deborah Rogers said, “Fifty years from now, we want the Foundation camp property to be even healthier and more beautiful than it is today.” Three years later, the Property Planning & Stewardship team completed its first-ever comprehensive Land Stewardship Plan to support diverse, balanced, robust, and native animal and plant life in the Frio River Canyon.

Foundation Camp, 2017

In 2017, H. E. Butt Foundation Camp served more guests than ever before as a record 24,716 people experienced the Canyon through the program.

LLYC Legend and Family Historian Dan Roloff Retires

Dan Roloff has witnessed tremendous transformation in the organization since the 1980s. The quintessential oral historian of the Canyon’s best tales, “Ramblin’ Dan,” as he was sometimes known around the Canyon, retired on March 28.

Living Into Our Mission 2017

Since the Foundation’s birth in 1933, our roots and our core commitments have remained unchanged. Yet each generation of Foundation leadership has expressed its mission in different ways based on the language of the day and the needs and opportunities placed before us in the Canyon and in our local communities.
