LLYC Summer 2018

Making an unexpected best friend while swimming at Blue Hole. Teaming up to practice a crazy cabin skit—over and over and over. Letting down your guard in late-night Cabin Time conversations. Where else could complete strangers become like family by the end of two weeks?

At LLYC, campers discover the great outdoors, learn new skills, and create lifelong relationships that pick up right where they left off the summer before. Relationships just seem to work better in the Frio Canyon—relationships between campers, between campers and counselors, and best of all between campers and God.

This year, LLYC walked through the Lord’s Prayer verse by verse at nightly Roundup talks. Campers focused on God’s holiness, learned what it means to ask for God’s will to be done, and were able to see the dependence required to ask for daily provisions, forgiveness, and deliverance.

Now, the slides and life jackets are packed up, the cabins and kitchens are cleaned, and LLYC is making room for other groups to enjoy the space. Although the summer has ended for LLYC, campers and staff left with full, grateful hearts that will sustain them all year long, until next year brings them back again to grow even closer to friends, mentors, and God.

See y’all next year!

The Pioneer of Texas Outdoor Education

You can’t properly tell the story of outdoor education in the Canyon—or in the state of Texas—without talking about Irma Lewis, a P.E. teacher from Seguin.
